Q: What is a HDR file?
A: HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. We convert HDR files down to 16bit per channel before printing. The TALON capturing system can capture multible exposure, yeilding a 32bit, 600ppi file for archiving artwork.
Q: What do I need to know about resolution and color space?
A: Two frequently asked questions are about resolution and color space. We recommend a minimum resolution of 150 ppi(pixels per inch) at the size the image is going to be printed.
For example, if ordering a 36"X48" image for fine art printing, we would generally require you to have a file that measures 36"X48" at 300 ppi, this would be roughly a 150 megapixel file(900 megabyte file in 16bit per channel). The color space we work in is ProPhoto RGB. There are many different color spaces, if you are working in 16-bit per channel RGB we recommend ProPhoto RGB for the simple reason it offers a wider color gamut and therefore a higher color range.
We use proprietary printer/paper/ink profiles designed for the papers we use.
Q: What is Interpolation?
A: Many digital cameras do not produce enough native (optical) resolution to print large format prints.
It is possible to increase the file size of an image by interpolating. Interpolation can be done in Photoshop and it increases the file size by adding pixels to make up for the lack of resolution.
The way interpolation works is by averaging adjacent pixels in the file and averaging what values to make the pixels. By doing so, the image will soften a bit and detail is not gained. What is gained though is the chance to reduce or eliminate pixelation (providing the interpolation is performed correctly and within limits).
Interpolation should only be used when pixelation becomes a problem and there is no way to attain a higher resolution file.
Q: I have large images to send to raven image, can I ftp the files?

Q: I don't have an ftp client, how can i upload and download large files to raven image?
A: If you are using Mozilla's Firefox you can download a ftp client plug-in called FireFTP.
